Location: Oklahoma State Capitol, Oklahoma City, OK 

Overview: We are seeking a skilled and creative photographer to join our team at the Oklahoma State Capitol. As the Capitol Photographer, you will play a pivotal role in capturing the essence of our state government, legislative sessions, events, and historical moments through compelling visual storytelling. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Photography: Take high-quality photographs of state legislators, government officials, events, and activities within the Capitol and its surroundings. 

  • Event Coverage: Document legislative sessions, committee meetings, and other significant events held at the Capitol. 

  • Portrait Photography: Capture professional portraits of lawmakers, executives, and distinguished guests as required. 

  • Art and Architectural Elements of the Capitol: Capture and showcase the art and the building in a visually compelling and accurate manner. 

  • Archival Work: Organize and maintain an extensive photo archive of Capitol events and historical moments for future reference and historical documentation. 

  • Collaboration: Coordinate with government officials, communications teams, and event organizers to ensure photography needs are met effectively. 

  • Editing and Post-Production: Edit and retouch photographs as needed to ensure high quality and adherence to established standards. 

  • Publication Support: Provide photographs for use in official publications, reports, social media, and other communication channels. 

  • Image Printing: Manage the printing and distribution of high-quality images for legislators, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to specified requirements for official use and personal requests. 

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Proven experience as a professional photographer, ideally with experience in event coverage and portrait photography. 

  • Proficiency in digital photography and photo editing software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, ACDSee). 

  • Strong understanding of composition, lighting, and visual storytelling. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively, especially during fast-paced events. 

  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings during session as needed. 

  • Knowledge of state government operations and legislative processes (preferred but not required). 

Education and Certification: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or certification in Photography, Visual Arts, Journalism, or a related field is preferred. 

  • Equivalent professional experience may be considered. 

Working Conditions: 

  • The role is primarily based at the Oklahoma State Capitol in Oklahoma City. 

  • Will require standing for extended periods during events. 

  • Traversing multiple sets of stairs daily with limited use of elevators 

  • Sitting for extended periods of time while editing photos
